Happy Halloween – Coming Soon To A Hotel Near You!

Share

Another year has flown by and the witches, goblins, ghouls and endless Facebook photos of Halloween costumes have also slipped away into the shadows or flown away on their broomsticks for another year.

Suddenly, we are heading into the Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas, Winter Solstice and New Year season, always wondering “How did that happen so fast?”

Then, we begin to think of the future and make our New Year Resolutions with our goals and plans for “The Rest of Our Lives”.

Thinking of our future, I came across this BBC video giving us a glimpse into our future and with a touch of Halloween. This may be the future for us, but in Japan it is reality.

The BBC article can be found at Five Things About Japan’s Robot Hotel.

Japan is the world leader in robotics and although this video is kinda cute, it has ramifications for everyone of us, especially if you are planning on having a J-O-B, a job, for the foreseeable future.

Yes, this video is cute, but if I had a job on the front desk of a hotel, I would be quaking in my shoes for my future.

An Australian company has built a robot brick-layer – called “Hadrian” – cute again – but Hadrian lays 1000 bricks an hour – 24 hours a day – in perfect precision, doesn’t need coffee and lunch breaks, doesn’t call in sick and isn’t unionized. If I was a bricklayer, I might be quaking in my shoes.

I don’t want to be a downer but perhaps this New Year’s Eve, one of the questions you might ask yourself is “Could I be replaced by a robot?”

If this is a possibility, perhaps now would be the time to make a backup plan and become free of the concern of being pushed out of your job, by a robotic velociraptor?
